چکیده

Plasma samples from suckling beef calves, transport-stressed weaned calves, 500 kg feedlot cattle, and lactating dairy cows were analyzed for vitamin C, folic acid, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B12' Plasma from stressed calves also was analyzed for vitamin B6' Differences in plasma levels were detected between groups. Plasma vitamin C was highest in suckling calves, but similar for stressed calves, feedlot cattle and dairy cows. Folic acid levels were highest in feedlot cattle and lowest in suckling calves and stressed calves. Pantothenic acid was markedly lower in all cattle than in nonruminants; it was similar in suckling calves and feedlot cattle but lower in stressed calves and dairy cows. Vitamin B12 was similar for suckling calves, stressed calves, and dairy cows, but low in feedlot cattle. Stressed calves had extremely low concentrations of plasma vitamin B6'

Effect of fasting on the urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins in humans and rats.

Recent studies showed that the urinary excretion of the water-soluble vitamins can be useful as a nutritional index. To determine how fasting affects urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins, a human study and an animal experiment were conducted. In the human study, the 24-h urinary excretion of water-soluble vitamins in 12 healthy Japanese adults fasting for a day was measured. One-day fast...

Plasma concentrations of water-soluble vitamins in metabolic syndrome subjects.

CONTEXT Vitamins B1 (thiamine), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine), and C (ascorbic acid) are vital for energy, carbohydrate, lipid, and amino acid metabolism and in the regulation of the cellular redox state. Some studies have associated low levels of water-soluble vitamins with metabolic syndrome and its various components. AIMS This study aims to determine the plasma concentrations of vitamins B...

Urinary excretion levels of water-soluble vitamins in pregnant and lactating women in Japan.

Recent studies have shown that the urinary excretion levels of water-soluble vitamins can be used as biomarkers for the nutritional status of these vitamins. To determine changes in the urinary excretion levels of water-soluble vitamins during pregnant and lactating stages, we surveyed and compared levels of nine water-soluble vitamins in control (non-pregnant and non-lactating women), pregnant...

Effects of Weaning, Fasting and B-vitamin Injections on Plasma B-vitamin Concentrations in Beef Calves

Twelve 364 Ib beef calves were weaned, limit-fed and fasted for three days during the 20-day period after weaning, and then inoculated intranasally with live attentuated infectious bovine rhinotracheitis on day 20. Six of these calves were injected intramuscularly with water soluble vitamins every 2 days from day 9 to day 34. Plasma ascorbic acid and pantothenic acid were depressed by weaning a...
